Skunks are members of the weasel family. The striped skunk is about the size of an adult house cat, with mostly black fur with white on top of the head and neck. Litters of four to seven young are born in late spring or early summer. The young are weaned in six to seven weeks and the family breaks up by fall. They become mature in about a year and have been known to live for 10 to 12 years.
